Independents Week , 2007-07-01 00:00:00 - 2007-07-07 00:00:00: Local First Vermont is sponsoring a statewide celebration of Vermont's independent and locally-owned businesses. During the first week of July, we will be hosting events, educating customers, and running a media outreach program to build excitement, awareness, and independence among Vermonters. Stay tuned for more information. In the coming weeks, we will send member businesses tips on how to participate and engage customers.

Indepndents Week

Dynamic Energy Therapy will offer 10% off all gift certificates and services paid for between July 4 and July 13. Cultural Crossroads will donate 6% of sales from July 4 - July 13 to the Vermont Foodbank. Scribbles will offer 10% off Local Artist Cards between July 4 - July 13. Powers Market will host a free winetasting on June 28th to kick off the Local First Indie Week, featuring all Vermont wines. It will be from noon to 3pm. For more details call 802.442.6821.

Local First Fact

In study after study, researchers have found that the economic impact of shopping for goods and services at locally-owned businesses is significantly greater than at non-local alternatives. For instance, in Austin, TX Civic Economics found that for every $100 spent at a local bookstore $45 stayed local, but for every $100 spent at a chain store only $13 stayed local. Transfering some of this money from chain or internet businesses to local businesses can have a huge impact! Think Local First!
